GRAND TETON AND YELLOWSTONE Winter PHOTO TOURS

ALL OF OUR PHOTO TOURS ARE PRIVATE TO YOUR GROUP OR FAMILY

Winter comes early and stays late in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. It is a magical time of year to be in Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Fierce blizzards and brutal cold push wildlife to the edge of their endurance while sculpting the landscape into a winter wonderland.

Snow usually begins in earnest by mid-October in Yellowstone, sending grizzlies to their den for a long winter’s nap. The coming winter also pushes wildlife out of the high country and into the GYE’s valleys. Elk and bison descend into Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley while the Teton Valley fills with wildlife.

Bighorn sheep descend to the National Elk Refuge and select winter habitat in Yellowstone while the Teton’s pronghorn head to southern Wyoming.

Wolves follow elk and bison out of the high country. The concentrated wildlife and coming snow makes winter their season of plenty.

Dramatic landscapes abound in Yellowstone and Grand Teton throughout the winter.

Snowcoaches begin exploring Yellowstone’s interior by December 15 when the Old Faithful Snow Lodge opens.

Thousands of elk gather in the southern Tetons and wolves are seen almost every day.

Grand Teton’s moose continue grazing in sagebrush flats in small herds until the snow deepens and they retreat to willow and cottonwood stands in the river and creek bottoms.

In both Yellowstone and the Tetons foxes and coyotes are commonly seen along with moose, elk and bighorn sheep. Bald and golden eagles are plentiful. There is even the occasional mountain lion roaming around.
